<aside> 💥 The vision of Women in STEM Suzhou (WiSTEM Suzhou) is to bridge the gender gap in STEM fields. We work to provide more opportunities for STEM girls to stand (as well as boys). This can be done in two ways; first, to encourage students (especially girls) to pursue STEM career by providing more opportunities, such as outreach and seminars, and second, to tackle the attitudes surrounding women in STEM by measures such as speeches and presentations. WiSTEM is a student-driven creativity group which all projects are run by the high school student from G9 to G12. Students plan and organize every event throughout the year. Through WiSTEM, students are able to gain knowledge of their interests related to STEM and are able to share their own insights through presentations and journals.
Every week, students are grouped with those of related STEM interests and work on a presentation (Semester 1) or an academic journal (Semester 2) that shows the outcome of their group or individual research. Two projects are called "Science & Passion" and "Science Weekly" respectively. Occasionally, the grouping work in a way that promotes inter-disciplinary collaboration (eg. Climate science and statistics). In S1, all presentation slides are uploaded to our Instagram account to raise awareness and to promote our group, which can ultimately empower and inspire more girls in STEM. Also, some selected presentations are repeated in assembly for promotions inside our school. In S2, all academic journals written by students are uploaded at the Student Notices and the official homepage on every Monday so that the school community and the public could see all of our outcomes.
